Customer Success Story

Automated Bakery Equipment Solutions

Automated Bakery Equipment Solutions (AMF), headquartered in Richmond, United States, is a global leader in providing complete bakery systems, offering a diverse range of bakery machines from single units to comprehensive production lines. With multiple locations across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, AMF operates as an engineer-to-order business, customizing solutions to meet specific customer requirements.

Background

AMF embarked on implementing Bluestar PLM alongside Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) to enhance operational excellence. Previously, AMF managed data with spreadsheets, which posed a high error risk, and utilized four different CAD systems, necessitating an integrated solution.

After rigorous evaluation, AMF chose Bluestar PLM for its unique integration with D365. This integration streamlined processes across all AMF sites, ensuring efficient operations and consistent data management. Bluestar PLM facilitated seamless global collaboration, allowing easy transfer of files and workload management across sites. This flexibility improved efficiency and allowed AMF to manage backlogs effectively.

Key modules in Bluestar PLM, including Engineering Change Management and Engineering Quality Management, enhanced AMF’s ability to manage engineering changes and ensure quality:

“When you are constantly making new parts and revisions, there is a risk that manufacturing parts may not match what was done in the engineering process. Bluestar PLM helps us go through the quality process and easily update BOMs and items as changes are made,” explains Viswanath Ponraj, Director of IT at AMF.

Since implementing D365 and Bluestar PLM, AMF’s revenue grew from $130 million to nearly $250 million, with only a 10-20% increase in employee count. The systems led to structured processes, better data management, and increased efficiency, significantly boosting business performance and customer satisfaction.

Results

  • Enabled seamless global collaboration and workload management,
  • Improved management of engineering changes and quality assurance,
  • Enhanced issue tracking and resolution with Corrective Action Request (CAR) function (Quality Management system),
  • Revenue increased from $130 million to nearly $250 million with a direct connection to the PLM and ERP implementation,
  • Boosted operational efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

“When we started this journey, our revenue was around $130 million. Now, we are close to $250 million. Our employee count has only increased by 10-20%, but our revenue has almost doubled. This growth is directly connected to the streamlined processes enabled by D365 and Bluestar PLM.”

Viswanath Ponraj, Director of IT at AMF
